Supreme Court Agrees To Hear Bladensburg Cross Case

National Prayer Points 

CPCF legal team: The CPCF Legal Team prepared a brief, joined also by a military chaplain’s organization and a veterans’ organization, urging the Supreme Court to review the decision of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals that Bladensburg, Maryland, had to remove a World War I memorial in the shape of a cross that has stood for almost a century recognizing the county’s war dead because it was a symbol affiliated with Christianity.  Our prayers have been answered, as the Supreme Court this past Friday agreed to review the case.  Pray now for First Liberty as they prepare, and for a favorable decision; one literally upholding the memorial cross. Also, pray for our legal team as they prepare a full amicus brief.

Asia Bibi Blasphemy Case: Husband Pleads For Asylum

Asia Bibi’s husband, Ashiq Masih, said they were in great danger in Pakistan. The Supreme Court overturned her conviction on Wednesday, saying the case against her was based on flimsy evidence. But she has yet to be freed. Her acquittal sparked violent protests, and the government has now agreed to try to stop her leaving the country.


State Prayer Points

Religious Liberty Legislation: Continue praying consistently and fervently for the successful passage of legislation that effectively protects our Judeo-Christian heritage and First Amendment Rights. Also, pray that bills and resolutions that undermine our Rights will be unsuccessful.

CA: Chino Valley School Board Appealing To Supreme Court

FL: The Battle Over The Pensacola Cross

CPCF Legal Team: A case involving a memorial cross in Pensacola, Florida was found to violate the Establishment Clause.  The counsel in that case tried to advance it on the Supreme Court’s calendar to have it considered along with the Bladensburg case, but the Supreme Court denied that motion. The battle goes on.

WA: CPCF Advocates For Praying Coach

CPCF Legal Team:The CPCF joined an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to grant the cert petition in this case involving proper application of the Establishment Clause to a high school coach being fired for bending the knee and praying by himself on the field after a football game.  The Supreme Court has now reconferenced this case a couple times, which normally indicates that it is getting close consideration.  It has been reset for the next conference on October 26.

WI: CPCF Stands For Ministers’ Housing Allowance

CPCF Legal Team:The appeal of the Wisconsin district court’s decision that the IRC’s exclusion of the value of a ministers’ housing allowance from gross income violates the Establishment Clause is fully briefed (including an amicus in support of the allowance by us on behalf of several of you) and will be argued shortly.  While we expect the Seventh Circuit to reverse, if it affirms, the government almost certainly will file for cert, and the Court will most likely accept it for review.
