Read this and other attacks on faith from Weekly Prayer Update 6/11/18 to 6/18/18

Prayer and Action

Living our faith means it impacts everything we do. Paul encourages unceasing prayer, and James makes a strong point that faith without works is dead. Have you considered how to positively impact your sphere of influence with the values and care that are derived from faith today?

CA: AB 2943 – Hearing On June 25th

The bill (AB 2943), states that licensed counselors, pastors and religious leaders, cannot counsel a minor struggling with their sexuality according to a Biblical worldview. You read that correctly. The California Assembly has passed AB 2943 and it is slowly making its way through committees in the senate. Consider bringing others with you to the hearing in the Appropriations Committee on June 25that 10:00am (PDT). It is located at the John L. Burton Hearing Room (4203). Please use your influence to ask your senator to protect religious freedom by not supporting AB 2943. Feel free to use these Talking Points when calling your senator, the Governor, or while at the hearing.

Heritage Foundation goes into depth to explain the far reaching consequences should this bill become law. As Monica Burke notes, the bill but actually limits the choices of Californians, “censors speech of counselors and pastors, and infringes upon religious freedom.”

FL: Florida Censors Counseling For Minors

“Liberty Counsel has filed suit in federal court against the City of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County for their adoption of City Ordinance 5407 and County Ordinance 2017-046, which prohibit minors in Boca Raton and Palm Beach County from receiving voluntary counseling from licensed professionals to reduce or eliminate their unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors or gender confusion.”

MD: Fourth Circuit Calling For War Memorial In Shape Of Cross To Be Demolished

CPCF Legal Team: The case involves the Bladensburg Peace Cross, a memorial to area men who died in the First World War. It has stood since 1925 without bothering anyone until in 2014 the American Humanist Association felt that the monument violates the Constitution’s establishment clause. The district judge tossed the case, holding that the tiny amount of government money that is spent on upkeep does not endorse religion. The Fourth Circuit held 2-1 that this offends the First Amendment. On the petition for rehearing en banc the court declined by 8-6. Pray that the Supreme Court takes this case and reverses the Fourth Circuit ruling.

TX: Church Forced to Remove Billboards

“Billboards promoting a celebration of faith and freedom at the First Baptist Church in Dallas were removed after complaints from Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and the Dallas Morning News…The patriotic billboard campaign included the title of the sermon Dr. Robert Jeffress planned to deliver on June 24 – ‘America is a Christian Nation.'”
