MD: Trump Administration Urges Supreme Court To Protect Cross-Shaped Memorial
The CPCF Legal Team prepared a brief, joined also by a military chaplain’s organization and a veterans’ organization, urging the Supreme Court to reverse the decision of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals that Bladensburg, Maryland, must remove a World War I memorial in the shape of a cross that has stood for almost a century recognizing the county’s war dead because it was a symbol affiliated with Christianity. The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case on February 27. Pray now for a favorable decision that upholds the constitutionality of this and other memorial crosses. CPCF Legal Team: The CPCF joined an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to grant the cert petition in this case involving proper application of the Establishment Clause to a high school coach being fired for bending the knee and praying by himself on the field after a football game. The Supreme Court has now reconferenced this case a couple times, which normally indicates that it is getting close consideration.
WI: CPCF Stands For Ministers’ Housing Allowance
CPCF Legal Team: The appeal of the Wisconsin district court’s decision that the IRC’s exclusion of the value of a ministers’ housing allowance from gross income violates the Establishment Clause is fully briefed (including an amicus in support of the allowance by us on behalf of several of you) and will be argued shortly. While we expect the Seventh Circuit to reverse, if it affirms, the government almost certainly will file for cert, and the Court will most likely accept it for review.
