Religious Liberty Legislation: Continue praying consistently and fervently for the successful passage of legislation that effectively protects our Judeo-Christian heritage and First Amendment Rights. Also, pray that bills and resolutions that undermine our Rights will be unsuccessful.

WA: Game Not Over For Praying Coach

CPCF Legal Team: Thank you for praying with us that the Supreme Court would grant the cert petition of Coach Kennedy, who was fired for bending the knee and praying by himself on the field after a football game.  The Supreme Court on January 22 denied the petition, but Justice Alito, for himself and Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh, wrote a statement that the reason they voted to deny review was that it was not clear that that was the only reason the coach had been fired.  Justice Alito then went out of his way, however, to say that, if it were, the case would likely be suitable for review and criticized several comments of the Ninth Circuit decision that could be viewed as antagonistic to religion and prayer.

WI: CPCF Stands For Ministers’ Housing Allowance

CPCF Legal Team: The appeal of the Wisconsin district court’s decision that the IRC’s exclusion of the value of a ministers’ housing allowance from gross income violates the Establishment Clause is fully briefed (including an amicus in support of the allowance by CPCF) and has now been argued.  While we expect the Seventh Circuit to reverse, if it affirms, the government almost certainly will file for cert, and the Court will most likely accept it for review.
