The CPCF Legal Team prepared a brief, joined also by a military chaplain’s organization and a veterans’ organization, urging the Supreme Court to reverse the decision of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals that Bladensburg, Maryland, must remove a World War I memorial in the shape of a cross that has stood for almost a century recognizing the county’s war dead because it was a symbol affiliated with Christianity.  The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case on February 27.  Pray now for a favorable decision that upholds the constitutionality of this and other memorial crosses. CPCF Legal Team: Thank you for praying with us that the Supreme Court would grant the cert petition of Coach Kennedy, who was fired for bending the knee and praying by himself on the field after a football game.  The Supreme Court on January 22 denied the petition, but Justice Alito, for himself and Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh, wrote a statement that the reason they voted to deny review was that it was not clear that that was the only reason the coach had been fired.  Justice Alito then went out of his way, however, to say that, if it were, the case would likely be suitable for review and criticized several comments of the Ninth Circuit decision that could be viewed as antagonistic to religion and prayer.

WI: CPCF Stands For Ministers’ Housing Allowance

CPCF Legal Team: The appeal of the Wisconsin district court’s decision that the IRC’s exclusion of the value of a ministers’ housing allowance from gross income violates the Establishment Clause is fully briefed (including an amicus in support of the allowance by us on behalf of several of you) and will be argued shortly.  While we expect the Seventh Circuit to reverse, if it affirms, the government almost certainly will file for cert, and the Court will most likely accept it for review.
