Read this and other attacks on faith from Weekly Prayer Update 6/11/18 to 6/18/18
“The Department of Justice today announced the ‘Place to Worship Initiative,’ which will focus on protecting the ability of houses of worship and other religious institutions to build, expand, buy, or rent facilities—as provided by the land use provisions of the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA).” Read more here.
Prayer and Action
Living our faith means it impacts everything we do. Paul encourages unceasing prayer, and James makes a strong point that faith without works is dead. Have you considered how to positively impact your sphere of influence with the values and care that are derived from faith today?
National Praises Points
“On Sunday, July 1, 2018, multiplied thousands of Christians across America will kneel in prayer for our nation in the Call2Fall… Pray for America Sunday, July 1.”
First Liberty created a cumulative compilation of recent documented instances of hostility toward free religious exercise. It is often cited by lawmakers, educators, opinion leaders, and the media.
International Prayer PointsCanada: Rulings Keep Law School From Accreditation
“After a pair of 7–2 rulings on Friday by the Supreme Court of Canada, the law societies of Ontario and British Columbia are now permitted to deny Trinity Western University]s (TWU) proposed law school accreditation because of its Christian standards of morality outlined in its community covenant.”
“The American Center for Law and Justice says an outrageous miscarriage of justice continues in Turkey. The Christian-based legal group is referring to the trial of 50-year-old American evangelical pastor Andrew Brunson. State Prayer Points
Religious Liberty Legislation
Continue praying consistently and fervently for the successful passage of legislation that effectively protects our Judeo-Christian heritage and religious liberty. Also, pray that bills and resolutions that undermine our First Amendment Rights will be unsuccessful.
The CPCF legal team has researched best practices legislation and provided talking points on various religious freedom topics to assist legislators. Download their Report here. View a model school policy on invocations before games here.
The bill (AB 2943), states that licensed counselors, pastors and religious leaders, cannot counsel a minor struggling with their sexuality according to a Biblical worldview. You read that correctly. The California Assembly has passed AB 2943 and it is slowly making its way through committees in the senate. Consider bringing others with you to the hearing in the Appropriations Committee on June 25that 10:00am (PDT). It is located at the John L. Burton Hearing Room (4203). Please use your influence to ask your senator to protect religious freedom by not supporting AB 2943. Feel free to use these Talking Points when calling your senator, the Governor, or while at the hearing.
Heritage Foundation goes into depth to explain the far reaching consequences should this bill become law. As Monica Burke notes, the bill but actually limits the choices of Californians, “censors speech of counselors and pastors, and infringes upon religious freedom.”
“Liberty Counsel has filed suit in federal court against the City of Boca Raton and Palm Beach County for their adoption of City Ordinance 5407 and County Ordinance 2017-046, which prohibit minors in Boca Raton and Palm Beach County from receiving voluntary counseling from licensed professionals to reduce or eliminate their unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors or gender confusion.”
CPCF Legal Team: The case involves the Bladensburg Peace Cross, a memorial to area men who died in the First World War. It has stood since 1925 without bothering anyone until in 2014 the American Humanist Association felt that the monument violates the Constitution’s establishment clause. The district judge tossed the case, holding that the tiny amount of government money that is spent on upkeep does not endorse religion. The Fourth Circuit held 2-1 that this offends the First Amendment. On the petition for rehearing en banc the court declined by 8-6. Pray that the Supreme Court takes this case and reverses the Fourth Circuit ruling.
“Billboards promoting a celebration of faith and freedom at the First Baptist Church in Dallas were removed after complaints from Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and the Dallas Morning News…The patriotic billboard campaign included the title of the sermon Dr. Robert Jeffress planned to deliver on June 24 – ‘America is a Christian Nation.'”
